About this dashboard

Gross Margin Bridge explains the year-over-year change in gross profit for Premium, Standard, Economy, Service, and Bundle SKUs. It separates the movement into Volume, Price, Mix, Cost, and FX effects, then rolls each driver to a portfolio total.

The dashboard output combines PY and CY revenue, COGS, gross profit, gross margin percentage, and GP deltas by SKU with a Summary walk from PY GP through each driver to CY GP. Volume uses the portfolio PY average gross profit per unit, while Mix isolates the SKU-shape residual. CY revenue applies the per-SKU FX translation factor, keeping the operating and translation effects visible together. The portfolio view makes the overall gross profit movement easy to review.

Use the dashboard for earnings walks, board or investment committee packs, and MD&A support. The supporting workbook holds PY/CY units, prices, costs, FX factors, and a user-set tolerance; the Summary compares bridge CY GP with Period_View actual and reports residual and check status for review.

What every dashboard includes

Live formulas, no hardcoded values

Outputs are driven by live formulas, so the workbook updates from its assumptions instead of relying on hardcoded results.

All assumptions in one tab

Inputs are clearly marked in the Assumptions tab and separated from calculations, making it clear what to change and what to leave intact.

Statements always balancing

For integrated-statement models, the balance sheet, cash flow, and supporting schedules tie through properly.

Distinct schedules for clarity

Debt, working capital, taxes, and cash flow can get messy quickly. We group calculations in clear schedules, not across disconnected tabs.

No hidden macros or external links

There are no unexplained external workbook links or macros to undermine auditability or portability.

Changes flow through the model

Update a key driver and see the impact carry through the forecast, financing, and return outputs. We never use hardcoded numbers in formulas.

Alex Tapio, ex-Deloitte financial modelling expert

Created by ex-finance professionals

Hey, I’m Alex and I created Finamodel.

Over my years in the finance industry I kept building the same models over and over again. Same structure, same assumptions, different logo. So I started building frameworks to turn them into clean, reusable templates.

Every model here is one I’d actually use for a client, and I personally vet each one before it goes up.

I’m not an expert in every industry, but I’ve built enough models to know what belongs in one. And when something is completely foreign to me, I reach out to my network for experts to work on our models with us.

Having a template library on hand cuts a first build from hours to minutes.

Frequently asked

Which drivers appear in the dashboard bridge?+

The bridge reports Volume, Price, Mix, Cost, and FX for each SKU and for the portfolio. The Summary starts with PY gross profit, adds those five effects in order, and compares the resulting bridge total with actual CY gross profit.

How does the dashboard separate Volume and Mix?+

Volume values the total unit change at the portfolio PY average gross profit per unit. Mix captures the residual caused by selling a different SKU composition than PY, using each SKU's PY gross profit per unit as the comparison.

What does the FX output represent?+

FX reflects the CY revenue translation factor entered for each SKU. The dashboard applies it to CY units and price, so a factor of 1.0 produces no FX effect and the resulting CY revenue includes that translation.

How do I know whether the bridge reconciles?+

The Summary reports bridge CY gross profit, actual CY gross profit from Period_View, and their residual. Its status is Reconciles when the absolute residual is within the tolerance entered on the Assumptions sheet; otherwise it indicates the check is outside tolerance.

What can I change in the supporting workbook?+

Update PY and CY units, price, cost, and the CY FX factor for the five SKU slots, plus the reconciliation tolerance. Period_View, Bridge_Calc, and Summary outputs then recalculate from those assumptions for the dashboard.
