About this dashboard

The Home Builder dashboard presents the fifth-year outcomes of a production homebuilder forecast. It highlights revenue, EBITDA, EBITDA margin, home gross margin, total closings, average ASP, ROIC, ROE, and the Y5 closing mix across entry-level, move-up, and luxury segments. Traffic-light status flags home gross margin and ROIC against the model’s on-track and watch thresholds.

Supporting schedules build those outputs from active communities, segment mix, deliveries per community, ASP and growth, home gross margin, financial-services activity, and operating costs. Communities and Closings show production; Revenue and P&L separate homebuilding and financial-services economics; Inventory_ROIC links inventory turns, debt, equity, NOPAT, ROIC, and ROE.

Use the dashboard to compare community growth with closings, understand how buyer mix affects average selling price and home margin, and review returns generated by the forecast capital structure. The segment view helps distinguish volume-led outcomes from changes in pricing, absorption, margin, or inventory efficiency.

What every dashboard includes

Live formulas, no hardcoded values

Outputs are driven by live formulas, so the workbook updates from its assumptions instead of relying on hardcoded results.

All assumptions in one tab

Inputs are clearly marked in the Assumptions tab and separated from calculations, making it clear what to change and what to leave intact.

Statements always balancing

For integrated-statement models, the balance sheet, cash flow, and supporting schedules tie through properly.

Distinct schedules for clarity

Debt, working capital, taxes, and cash flow can get messy quickly. We group calculations in clear schedules, not across disconnected tabs.

No hidden macros or external links

There are no unexplained external workbook links or macros to undermine auditability or portability.

Changes flow through the model

Update a key driver and see the impact carry through the forecast, financing, and return outputs. We never use hardcoded numbers in formulas.

Created by ex-finance professionals

Hey, I’m Alex and I created Finamodel.

Over my years in the finance industry I kept building the same models over and over again. Same structure, same assumptions, different logo. So I started building frameworks to turn them into clean, reusable templates.

Every model here is one I’d actually use for a client, and I personally vet each one before it goes up.

I’m not an expert in every industry, but I’ve built enough models to know what belongs in one. And when something is completely foreign to me, I reach out to my network for experts to work on our models with us.

Having a template library on hand cuts a first build from hours to minutes.

Frequently asked

What does the Home Builder dashboard show?+

It shows Y5 revenue, EBITDA, EBITDA margin, home gross margin, total closings, average ASP, ROIC, ROE, and closing mix across entry-level, move-up, and luxury buyers. Traffic-light indicators provide status for home gross margin and ROIC against the forecast thresholds.

Why does the dashboard show buyer segments?+

Entry-level, move-up, and luxury communities differ in deliveries per community, average selling price, and home gross margin. Showing their Y5 closing mix makes it easier to understand whether production volume, pricing, or segment composition is shaping the builder’s revenue and profitability outputs.

How is average ASP presented?+

Average ASP is the forecast’s homebuilding revenue divided by total closings. It gives a blended view across the three buyer segments, while the supporting Revenue schedule retains the segment-level ASP and revenue figures that explain changes in the dashboard average.

What do ROIC and ROE represent here?+

ROIC is NOPAT divided by inventory, reflecting returns on the modelled homebuilder inventory base. ROE is net income divided by average equity. Together they show operating return on the core asset base and earnings return on the equity roll-forward.

Does this dashboard include a full land pipeline?+

The dashboard covers production, revenue, profitability, inventory efficiency, and capital returns for the forecast. It does not show a separate land-pipeline build, full balance sheet, or cash flow statement, so those analyses require additional supporting schedules or models.
